Live Irish Music by Kinvara

Kinvara is a Portland based, traditional Irish music band that includes Grant Crowley, Sue Davis, Mark Masterson and Dennis O’Malley. They play guitar, mandolin, fiddle, whistle, banjo and bodhran. Their set lists include reels, jigs, polkas, waltzes and traditional songs. Kinvara has been together 17 years and has recorded two CDs.

We have chosen this organization as a way of honoring the past generosity of the Choctaw Tribe towards the Irish people who were suffering from the great famine.  Despite enduring the trail of tears during the 1830's, the Choctaw tribe contributed $170 to Irish famine relief. The tribe heard about the Irish Famine from Irish immigrants who were involved in the forced relocation of the tribe. In 2017, a sculpture in MIdleton, County Cork entitled "Kindred Spirits" was dedicated to celebrate the 170th year anniversary of this unusual act of kindness.
